Cypress High instructor named All-Star Teacher
Dana Cooper, a math teacher at Cypress Charter High School, this week was named one of 28 California All-Star Teachers by StudentsFirst during an event in Sacramento.
The competition drew hundreds of nominations statewide for teachers who specialize in various subject matters.
Nominated by the school's principal, the Santa Cruz resident started working at Cypress in 2009 as an instructional aide. In time, she began teaching personal finance and pre-algebra while earning her single subject teaching credential.
"My greatest joy in teaching is the constant interaction I have with my students," Cooper said. "I love being able to watch them grow and know that I have an impact on their lives."
She also tries to "stay on the cutting edge of new educational developments and try to keep my classroom current and purposeful for my students," she said.
Now that she has won this designation, she will receive a $200 gift certificate for school supplies. She also was recognized during the California State Assembly's floor session and treated to a reception.
